At the end of October 2002 a seminar was held in the Kiev Institute for social and community workers. It was dedicated to the Jewish children's homes in CIS. Among the participants were about forty directors and workers of the Jewish children's homes in Ukraine and Russia, rabbis, heads of synagogues and communities, directors of Jerusalem, Moscow, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Kharkov and Kiev representations of the "Joint", Israeli experts on problems of children's homes, the head of the program "Education" of "Joint" (Jerusalem department), executive director of the World Jewish Aid (Great Britain), employees of Kiev institute for social and community workers and others.
KISCW prepared an analytical material "Children in Ukraine" translated into English by the "Joint". The seminar's participants discussed different approaches to work with children from risk groups in children's homes, the "Joint's" approach to the questions of cooperation, physical development in children's homes, demands in teaching and other urgent problems.
The seminar became an important step in the development of the program of help to children in CIS. |
