October 6 the Sholom-Aleikhem Kiev society held a meeting with historian Igor Turov - staff member of the Institute for political and ethnic national studies who had recently returned from a scientific trip to Israel. Having spent about a year in Jerusalem, Igor had an opportunity to feel the situation from within and make up his own opinion about the developments in Middle East. October 10, a Hungarian Jew Imre Kertesh has received the Nobel Prize in literature. The IV International festival of arts named after Solomon Mikhoels was held in Moscow. It was timed for the 50th anniversary of shooting the members of Jewish anti-fascists committee. The performance by the Franko theatre "Tevje-Tevel" with Bohdan Stupka in the leading vole on the stage of Moscow Art theatre became the opening event. |
