President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma received October 1 members of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry' delegation headed by the NCSJ chairman Harold Paul Laks. The parties had a friendly talk on the situation with Jewish community in Ukraine. L.Kuchma noted Ukraine applies maximum efforts to revive and develop national minorities, Jews, in particular. "The Jewish community plays an important role in the development of Ukrainian society", - noted he.

The talk also concerned restitution of Jewish communities' property. L.Kuchma underlined synagogue buildings are gradually returned to the Jewish community (55 out of 109 former synagogues have been passed over to community's ownership or use). He marked Ukraine will go on promoting restitution of former property of Jewish communities.
