Kiev. Ukrainian Academy of Jewish history and culture of Ukraine named after Shimon Dubnov, Jewish fund and Association of national-cultural unions of Ukraine, other Jewish organizations addressed the Vice-Premier of Ukraine V.Seminozhenko and other officials with a request to create a committee on the preparation for 2000th anniversary of Ukrainian Jews. Former commander of a partisan squadron L.Y.Berenstein awarded the president of Kiev organization "Bney Brit", professor F.Levitas and general director of Jewish fund of Ukraine A.Monastyrsky with medals on the 55th Anniversary of Victory in World War II (instituted by the Israeli veterans' union).

Dnepropetrovsk. October 4-6 a delegation of National conference on Soviet Jewry (NCSJ) headed by Harold Paul Laks, the head of the organization, visited the city. Guests were interested in life and work of Dnepropetrovsk Jewish community, development of Jewish culture in Dnepropetrovsk, attitude to the national question by the authorities. During the visit delegation members visited the Jewish school "Or Avner khabad Lyubavich", learned the work of pedagogical college "Bet-Khana".

The delegation also met the governor of Dnepropetrovsk oblast Nikolay Shvets. During the meeting there was once again underlined the significance of official policy in the life of Jewish community. The governor, on his part, mentioned the significant contribution of Jewish community headed by Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky into the public and cultural development of Dnepropetrovsk region.

Autonomous Republic of Crimea. During the International forum on culture and national identification "Local cultures of Crimea and their role in the future of Ukraine" (October 2-5, 2002), there was a report "Jewish Crimean ethnos (Ashkenazim, Krymchaks and Karaims) and their role in the future of Ukraine". Then the member of Crimean Krymchak society Igor Achkinazi and the chairman of Crimean Karaim society Vladidmir Ormeli expressed their protest. They regarded referring their national groups to the Jewish ethnos as an offence.

Donetsk. Donbass Jewish community celebrated a joyful event - the bringing in of Torah Roll, presented by Paris Jewish community, into the Donetsk synagogue. The celebration began in "Doka-Pizza" cafe, where last words were into in the Torah. Later on to the solemn music sacred and priceless Torah Rolls were delivered to the synagogue and placed in the Aron-Kodesh - sacred storage. The festival, having begun near the main entrance to the synagogue, lasted till the very evening. A huge number of Donetsk and oblast Jews as well as from other cities and states participated in the festival procession. It was accompanied with songs, dances and thanks to God.
