On December 6, 1941 World War II was in its heat. Like Japanese air strikes on Pearl Harbor, the acts of terror on September 11 made the Americans start a severe war for the future of Western civilization. That was the war, which declaration was too long postponed. As well as World War II, the terrorist war against Western civilization started with the aggression against the Jews. It's no use to separate the conflict between Israel and Palestine from the war on terror. In the beginning there was a word. And the word was on a fence. And the word was vile and abominable. Recently we have observed swastikas, the Star of David on the gallows and the word "Yid" so gratifying to the eye of an anti-Semite, on fences and buildings in Kiev. Well, we were making a helpless gesture - every family has its black sheep. But, in general, - we reassured ourselves - there are no influential political forces professing blunt Judophobia in Ukraine. ALEXANDER NAIMAN
Half a century ago on August 12, 1952 13 members of the Jewish anti-fascist committee (JAC) were executed on falsified case. The USSR officials didn't like the fact that the members of JAC tried to help the Jews who, having returned from the front or evacuation, were striving to return their apartments and apply for a job overcoming post-war anti-Semitism. The "JAC case" became a part of repressions which caused the imprisonment of nearly all Jewish artists, the culture itself was banned. |
