Canada. Official sources report an increase of anti-Semitism' related crimes in Canada. 197 incidents of the kind were recorded from January till June 2002. Whereas during the entire last year there were 286 of them. The number of anti-Semitic acts has increased by 62,8%. This is 35% more that over a five-year period from 1996 till 2001.
Russia. The Timiryazev intermunicipal court of Moscow has passed a decision to ban the activity of the "Russkiye Vedomosti" newspaper for stirring up interethnic discord. The newspaper, in particular, published materials arousing national intolerance towards Caucasian nations.
France. France will certainly find and punish anyone involved in committing anti-Semitic actions, - stated the Prime Minister of the country Jean-Pierre Raffaren at the meeting in memory of French Jews sent by Nazis to concentration camps. "The detriment caused to Jewish community is a detriment to France, a detriment to our republic in which there is no place for anti-Semitism, xenophobia and racism", - said the Prime Minister, addressing the gathering on the square of Martyrs-Jews July 21.
Meanwhile, the last wave of anti-Semitism stirred lots of anxieties in French society. In France there were held nearly 360 anti-Semitic actions - from drawings on the walls till throwing bottles with flammable liquid at these walls. The French Prime Minister promised to find and punish everybody involved in these actions.
Finland, Latvia, Malta and Ukraine should resort to more resolute efforts to combat racism and anti-Semitism, states the report by the Council of Europe's Commission against racism and anti-Semitism. Concerning Ukraine it is noted local minorities have problems in different spheres of life, including relations with the police.
USA. The House of Representatives of US Congress has approved of the resolution condemning an outburst of anti-Semitism all over Europe. The resolution states European governments should apply efforts to curb expansion of such moods and restrict the activity of persons and organizations advocating the ideas of racial hatred.
One of the causes of anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli moods is the Middle East conflict active for over a year and a half. It is underlined any acts of violence directed at Jews and Jewish organizations have been and remain crimes to be accordingly punished. Europe should fall to thinking over current developments since similar crimes have become an almost daily phenomenon.
