Of The Jewish Confederation Of Ukraine
In Brief ...
The word "Fixer" (original name of the historical novel by a famous American writer Bernard Malamud who received Pulitzer and National prizes altogether in 1966) means in American jargon "a person arranging all sorts of doubtful affairs".
Jews in Ukraine used to indulge, among other things, in creating Jewish parties and associations. The Jews strived for satisfying their everyday, cultural and professional needs, participated in the activity of Ukrainian and Russian public and political organizations. Jewish organizations almost unanimously defied a Bolshevist approach to solving a national question. Though, they frequently held different or even opposite views of the development of national life.
Jewish sights of this city are described in the booklet "Uzhgorod. Trip about memorable places of Jewish history", published by the Zakarpatje regional charitable fund "Khesed Shpira" and Zakarpatje regional society for protection of monuments of history and culture.
