FRG. The first synagogue in Eastern Germany has recently opened in Drezden. The new building was erected instead of the old one burnt in 1938 during a Jewish pogrom. The building isn't very big - it is for 300 people.
Pol Shpigel, chairman of the Central German Jewish Council, called this event "a miracle we could only dream about 10 years ago". The synagogue construction cost $10 million. The most part of the money was taken from the city budget. Other $2 millions were collected from private donations.
Great Britain. The International Anti-Terrorism Conference, attended by religious leaders of three religions - Christianity, Islam and Judaism, was held on November 15 in London. At the conference the representatives of the British Jewish community called for full liquidation of the Israeli State as the only way of solving the Middle East crisis.
As British Jews think, the existence of Israel is the reason of all regional disorders, and therefore there should be no such a state. Israeli Jews should again learn to co-exist with Arabs - under wise Arab supervision, as it was before the creation of the Zionist state.
USA. A 100-year old mikva was found under one of New York streets. This Jewish ritual bath was discovered under a sandlot near the synagogue in Elridge Street - a traditional Jewish settlement.
This important find will allow to create a more vivid picture of the life of Jewish emigrants in New York at the beginning of the XX century", - said Amy Waterman, Chief Executive of the Elridge Street Project, who carried out the archeological excavations.
Australia. 88-year old Konrad Kaleys died before his appeal against the Australian court's decision about his extradition to Latvia. During his last years he lived in Melbourne suburbs.
During the war Kaleys was an officer in "Zonderkomand Arays", which killed 30 thousand Latvians, mostly Jews.
In May the Melbourne court decided that Konrad Kaleys should be extradited to Latvian authorities, which have already got an order for his arrest.
