Russia. Memorial Evening of Babiy Yar victims, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the tragedy, took place on November 19 in the Big Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. Vladimir Fedoseev and his orchestra played the 13th symphony of Dmitriy Shostakovich on Yevgeniy Yevtushenko's verse and the 6th symphony of Chaikovsky.

Russia. The newspaper "Jews of Northern Caucasus" published its 100 issue in Nalchik. It was established by Svetlana Davidova, candidate of history. The newspaper is known and loved in many cities of Caucasus, as well as in Israel and the USA. This year Svetlana Aronovna moved with her family to the USA, and now her business is continued by the professional journalist Vera Perelgut. During this period "JNC" has grown not only professionally, but has also enlarged its volume: new pages "Our House" of the Pyatigorsk "Khesed Benzion" were added.

Russia. The youth organization of the "Centre Shalom" community initiated the establishment of an ensemble of national Jewish music in Orel. All its members are professional musicians, music teachers of Orel schools and higher education establishments. The ensemble is headed by Vladimir Ivanov. He revived the traditions of his grandfather, who played in a klezmer group in the late 20s. Old printed music notes and playbills of those times are cautiously kept in the family archives. The last bill is dated 1931 - the year when the group broke up.

Uzbekistan. Mikhail Degtyar, Head of the Jewish community of Uzbekistan, has recently left the country. It happened after criminal proceedings were instituted against him for an article printed in the Swedish magazine "Central Asia and Caucasus". The article was about anti-Semitism and Jewish emigration from Uzbekistan.

Russia. A series of seminars, dedicated to the krav-mag martial art, were held in Saint-Petersburg. Today it is the official self-defence system of the Defence Army of Israel, widely used for police and army training in different countries of the world. The krav-mag martial art was created by Imi Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld) in the 40-60s of the XX century. Then he was a chief instructor of hand-to-hand fighting of the Israeli Self-Defence Force.

The Saint-Petersburg seminars, organized by the International Krav-Mag Federation (IKMF), were attended by Eyyal Yanilov, the Chief Instructor and President of IKMF, instructors from Israel, Sweden, Finland and USA.

Russia. Studies in the national Jewish group "Shalom" - the first and meanwhile the only one in Udmurtia - have begun in one of the Izhevsk kindergartens. The group consists of seven pupils, who study Hebrew, traditions, culture and history of the Jewish people.
