Nissan 27 - the Day of Catastrophe and heroism, day of sorrow and memory - is marked not only in Israel where a corresponding law was passed as early as in 1951, three years after the establishment of an independent Jewish state. Nissan 27 is the day uniting in memory all the Jews of the world - alive and dead... It unites those born several generations later and those for whom the Catastrophe is a continuous pain, an open wound of one's own life. JOSEPH TUROVSKY
An interesting form of studying Jewish traditions and history of Jewish people was invented at the Zaporozhye Jewish school-gymnasium "Aleph". YELENA AIZINA
"Israel to a great Odessa" is the name of the Israeli cultural center's project initiated during the recent Days of Israeli Culture in the city. The opening of plaques to Meir Dizengof (the first Mayor of Tel-Aviv) and Shimon Dubnov (a great Jewish historian, philosopher, public figure) launched the project. The solemn ceremony took place in the Richelyevskaya Street, 44/46. Another distinguished Odessa resident who has greatly contributed to the cause of the Jewish renaissance - Lev (Leon) Pinsker - is commemorated here. ALEXANDER NAIMAN
The State Committee on Nationalities and Migration has been recently created in Ukraine. Its head, Grigory Sereda, is a professional in this sphere as he used to head the analogous department since the moment of its foundation within the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. For the beginning Grigory Porfiryevich organized a meeting with the leadership of the national minorities' organizations. After 70 years of desolation and ruins the Central Synagogue of Vinnitsa functions again. It has become our Community House today. |
